On July 27th I entered a surf contest at Yilan beach. Yilan has the largest surfing community in all of Taiwan. Even though I don't really consider myself a competitive surfer or even at that caliber I thought it would be a great opportunity to meet new people and have some fun at the same time.
On my way to the contest I was praying to the Lord for strength and grace to be a light there and then I prayed a side prayer telling the Lord it would be cool to meet a surfer that is a Christian.
So when I got to the beach I made my way to the registration booth and just before signing up I met a guy I had seen surfing before but never spoke to. He approached me asking if I was the one doing Christian Surfers and when I said yes he then told me he was a Christian himself and there was another surfer who was also Christian and his wife played the piano at their church. I was so encouraged to see God answer my small prayer and I was so encouraged to meet these two Christian surfers. I shared with them our vision of what we feel God has us to do in Taiwan and they were very excited and very supportive as well.
As for my surfing in the contest. I actually made it through my first heat which I was quite surprised at. But then in my second heat I lost and it was over for me. But it was a great contest about 200 contestants and good time meeting new people.
